I’m writing this Wednesday night after learning that Buster is off to Philadelphia to start his first major league game for the Giants.  As you know he was selected as the fifth overall pick in the 2008 MLB draft.  From the get go the Giants have fast tracked him to the majors and rightfully so.  This season (his first full season), he entered in high A where he hit 0.326/13/56/6 in 346 at bats.  The Giants liked what they saw so much that they had him skip AA and moved up to AAA Fresno.

At Fresno he only had 151 at bats, but made the most of them as he went 0.321/5/22.  He has little else to prove in the minors and is ready to take over as catcher for the Giants.  Big things were expected out of Posey who got a 5+ million dollar signing bonus on deadline day last year.  His senior year at Florida State, he hit a whopping 0.463/26/93 in just 257 at bats.  He has shown great power and the ability to get hits in crunch time.  He is also a very nice through the mail signer as well <link>.

I may be wrong, but I think this is the beginning of a great career.  I haven’t seen a guy this ready for the majors since David Price last season.  The Giants aren’t going to put him in a lot of games, so that he can save his rookie status for next season, but truth be told, baseball card collectors should be excited about this one.

I should really try and go to that game, but have to much going on right now. I don’t think he will get a lot of PT as a Catcher this season. Molina was jogging in the OF during BP on Tuesday night – it was hard to tell how injured he was. A team in a playoff chase would really prefer not to go to battle with a rookie behind the plate.

As a die hard giants fan i am exited to see him up. I really enjoy watching bengie but posey is just an amazing talent. I hope he plays tonight!
