With Stephen Strasburg on the shelf for the next season, the earliest we are going to be seeing is going to be very late (September 2011) or more likely the 2012 season.  I fully expect him to make a complete recovery, but even if he does there are two major questions.  Is the velocity still there? Can he get his mechanics back?

These are legitimate concerns, especially for anyone owning Strasburg auto – gamers.  A quick look at recent eBay purchases says one thing, people are still high on him, just not $1000+ high on him.  Most if not all of his auctions end around $375 for the high end stuff and around $180 for the lower end stuff.  None of the recent auctions ended with a price tag of over $200.

Here are some examples:
BOWMAN PLATINUM STEPHEN STRASBURG AUTO PATCH RC # 40/50
$395

2010 Triple Threads STEPHEN STRASBURG JERSEY AUTO 10/25
$368

10 TRIPLE THREADS STEPHEN STRASBURG JASON HEYWARD AUTO
$300

2008 UD Sweet Spot Stephen Strasburg rc Auto 235/260
$195

As you can see the market is still there for his cards, but that will change next year with the soon to be massive over release of Bryce Harper cards.  I don’t think we have even hit the bottom yet.  Strasburg’s cards still have another 10 – 20% still to lose.  If he fails to make a start this season, I would buy, otherwise we will see a steady rise of value until his first start then it will grow or shrink from there.  It should be interesting to see how people respond to two super phenoms, how is it going to play out?
