My doppelganger, Alan Faneca retired on Monday and although not many out there noticed, I can tell you he will be missed. He was one of the best offensive guards to ever play the game. I have always been a fan of the great offensive lineman.
Alan was the 26th overall pick in the 1998 draft taken by the Pittsburgh Steelers. You need only go as far as Jerome Bettis’s career in Pittsburgh to know how good of a lineman he was. For every line he has played on, he has paved the way for some very good running backs including Bettis, Willie Parker, Duce Staley, Thomas Jones, and Shonn Green.
He was a 9 time Pro Bowler (out of 12 seasons), a 9 time All Pro, Pittsburgh Steeler All Time Team, and NFL’s 2000s NFL team. In other words, he is a tremendous player and hopefully will earn his rightful spot in the NFL Hall of Fame.
Although his accolades are amazing, he has few cards and even less autographs. As you would expect for a guard he cards are pretty cheap, most of his cards could be had for $5 or less and given the quality of his career, it’s hard to fathom why they are so cheap. If you have a card of his and are looking to get rid of it, let me know he would be a fine addition to my offensive lineman collection.
